The Front Door

Friday, February 24th, 2006

We currently have a stained glass window in the front door made primarily of colored GlueChip. This was made by Russ as one of his first projects a few years back. Now that the living room is just about finished he’s decided that the colors and the design just don’t work in the room (and I agree). By using clear glasses and a few bevels the design will allow some much needed light into the room as well as fit better aesthetically.

This is Russ’s project and he’s doing great. He designed the pattern, cut all the glass and is now tacking it together for the final solder. What you see pictured below is the center of the window without its final border. Oh, and it isn’t soldered yet either.

Wednesday Means Classes

Thursday, February 23rd, 2006

We got started right on time today with Ann, Billie, Kim, and Julie. Ann is making a flower window that I don’t have a picture of because I forgot to snap pictures while we were all working. She took the white pieces home with her to wrap (we call it homework) so we can cut the background while using the glass flowers as pattern pieces next week.

Julie is moving right along also. She’s making a 42 x 12 window based on an old traditional style pattern. She also has ‘homework’ this week but we have half the window here and you can see what the basic idea is.

Kim’s rooster window is all cut save for the sun. She’s still a little unsure as to what color she wants the sun to be so we’re leaving it blank for now. Next week she’ll be at the grinder most of the class getting everything to fit perfectly.

Last, but not least, we have Billie’s window which features her house number. She’s got everything but the background and the border cut, ground and wrapped. Although it looks like there’s a lot of work left, there isn’t.

The music of choice today was Neil Diamond’s Greatest hits Volumes I and II, plus his latest CD. Last week we listened to most of the Bee Gee’s hits and the week before it was all of Hall and Oates top 40 hits (28 of them I think).

Myself, I have 2 windows in the works and Russ is working on a new panel for the front door. More on these windows later…

What This Is All About

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2006

Rather than a daily Blog, this will be updated only once or twice a week. Here you will be able to view what we are working on as well as projects being made by our students. The difference between the pictures you find on our main site and on this Blog is that you will see works in progress here as opposed to completed works on the main site.

Before the week is over I will put a few pictures and descriptions up of windows that have been recently made by us. I had commented on some of them on my personal Blog but wanted to bring them here into their own space on the internet.

Thanks for joining us!
